Paste any recipe and instantly convert it to Jain — non-violence principles — no root vegetables or animal products. Free ingredient substitution tool, with 9 other diets to choose from below.
About This Diet
Jain dietary practices are rooted in the principle of ahimsa (non-violence). Jains avoid all animal products and also avoid root vegetables (such as potatoes, onions, garlic, and carrots) because harvesting them destroys the entire plant and the micro-organisms living in the soil. The diet is strict but nutritionally complete.
